Extreme Makeover: Bike Edition

I have 3 boys and one girl. Ironically I was the only girl in my family with three brothers. I feel her pain!

So when she needed a bike and it wasn't in the budget, we had to get creative. See we have a bike that fits her perfectly. The only problem is that its a boys bike.

We decided to give this baby an extreme makeover.  Bike Edition.  I know, corny.

All it took was spray paint, duct tape, and some stickers, oh and some clear gloss spray paint.

I started taking this baby apart but the after the first few screws I wasn't convinced that I could put it back together. So we got creative and used trash bags to help tape it off.

If you want to try something similar, here are the steps I took:

1. Wash bike well

2. Lightly sand the polished coating off

3. Tape off all the metal parts and cover anything else with a trash bag or drop cloth

4. Begin spray painting with a paint and primer combo

5. Repeat light coats of paint. {I think I did 3 coats}

6. When its dry add your stickers.

7. Cover the stickers with a clear gloss spray paint to seal them

We used duct tape to cover the seat and foam piece on the handle bars.

It was an easier process than I thought it would be and turned out great. {Minus the fact that when I went to seal the stickers with the gloss spray I accidentally sprayed navy blue paint because they were in similar cans and the colored top had popped off ~ ooops!}

Its not perfect but its definitely girly!

She loves her new bike and so do I!
