Dining Chair Redo

     Have you ever found a pillow, fabric or some item of decor, and when you first saw it you thought, "this will be perfect for my ________" {living room, bathroom, etc.}? Ok, so I had such a moment. I found this ikat fabric that I knew would be great for living room pillows and to redo my dining room chairs in. And it was great.........for the living room pillows.

 I'm still not sure what happened, but in the dining room it gave off the vibe of an 80's beach condo. Not really the look I was going for.

I am going to show you this hot mess but only if you will give me some help!

As couch pillows I think you will agree that this is where the ikat should live.

I want to show you how easy it is to replace dining room chair fabric before we talk about further options for the 80's lovin' chairs!

Here's the old, terribly sorry, stain filled looking chair:

The first step to recover this bad boy is to remove the current seat. This involves a screw driver and finding the four screws on the bottom to unscrew. {See the hole, that's where the screw is. Don't mind the dried on chocolate milk from 14 years ago!}

Once the seat is off, pull off the fabric. This will be harder the more staples there are. I used one  of these tools.

Once your fabric is off {and you've washed the bottom of the seat, yuck!}, lay your seat out on the new fabric to help determine how much you will need. You need enough to wrap around the whole side of the seat onto the back for stapling.

Once I had it measured I took it out in the garage and scotch-guarded the heck out of it.

Once its dry, lay it back out on a flat surface, put your seat on top and start wrapping your fabric around to staple. Pay attention to your pattern placement. Add staples top to bottom first then side to side, alternating sides as you go and pulling your fabric taught. Follow the pictures to see how I did the corners.

Once its done screw the seat back onto the chair. I used a bar stool to help.

Once I got them done, I didn't like them. Again, 80's beach condo.

I think what I don't like is the fabric with the honey stained chairs. So, I'm thinking they need to be painted.

Here's my dining room set {with the old fabric}:

I am thinking that the X chair needs to be painted a light aqua {which would blend with the rest of the main floor}, and the other two chairs in the base color of the table. {In case you can't tell on the other two sides of the table I have benches painted the same as the table base as well.}

Would that fix my dilemma?

Thanks for your help!
